... you can be our fourth wheel anytime ...

a friend passed away recently. it was unexpected and shocking . but i am fortunate in that i was able to attend the memorial . while the day was certainly one of sadness, there was a lot of love going around . people smiled as they remembered . they talked about the old times . shared a snack or two . laughed at funny stories .

i reconnected with people who hold a significant place in my life . and again, more love going around . i had missed seeing those faces . and i was humbled by the graciousness of the laughter .

travelling to a childhood home is kind of like stepping into an "alice in wonderland" theme park . the old neighborhood is really small . the backyards which once seemed endless and full of enormous hills and trees, were really 'normal' sizes . the "hill" in the backyard was really a mound of dirt . parents aren't so tall anymore .
